News!
We are delighted to announce the founding of a new philosophical society devoted to posthuman studies: the World Society of Posthuman Studies (abbreviated as: WPS, World Posthuman Society). We are currently focused on organizing international meetings every five years, in conjunction with the World Congress of Philosophy. We anticipate publishing the proceedings of the WPS in an online peer-reviewed edition: “Infinity: The Posthuman in Philosophical Dimensions”. Clearly, the concerns of posthumanism belong to an international setting, as the upcoming XXVl World Congress at Peking University in Beijing has shown us. Interest in posthumanism is surging. All three of the Round Table Discussion Panels we proposed were gratefully approved.
Glocalization will be one of our themes, and we will follow the WCP guideline that at least three panelists represent different countries at our meetings. The concept of the posthuman is clearly bound up with the concept of evolution, and while there may have been a time when rigorously developed scientific concepts of evolution were too narrow to accommodate the many pathways we see to the posthuman, that is no longer the case. It is well recognized in settled science today that we are evolving in many different dimensions. One of our goals will be to encourage the posthumanist community worldwide to express the multiple perspectives on the pathways of the posthuman in flexible and rigorous terms.
